The Department of Defense has identified 2,933 American service members who have died since the start of the Iraq war. It has confirmed the deaths of the following Americans:

NELSON, Albert M., 31, Pfc., Army; Philadelphia; Second Infantry Division.

SPATOL, Theodore A., 59, Staff Sgt., Army; Thermopolis, Wyo.; 1041st Engineer Company.

STEINBACHER, Nicholas P., 22, Specialist, Army; La Crescenta, Calif.; First Cavalry Division.

SUAREZ-GONZALEZ, Roger A., 21, Pfc., Army; Miami; Second Infantry Division.
